Introduction
If you don’t know what business blogging is, business blogging are any regular post that a business publishes to the public. The reason for these posts are vast, and are often centred around gaining more exposure to potential customers, providing value, and developing trust with the reader.

This is powerful as a great blog can often make businesses look more attractive to potential customers. Someone is a lot more likely to purchase your product or service, if you provided amazing value for free.
If your free content is amazing, then it stands to reason that your paid products or services are out of this world!
Aside from these reasons, business blogs can be helpful to provide regular updates. Something we see just about every time there’s a major issue, such as the CrowdStrike outage last year.
Why Should Small Businesses Blog?
Lets jump straight in and cover off everything you need to know about business blogging in 2025.
What is Business Blogging?
Business blogging, in it’s most basic form, means publishing public content to a company’s website or social media platforms.
These blogs could include company updates, information on current issues or just useful information. Just like the blogs already on Liminal Websites and Mharwood.uk!
The aim or purpose of business blogs range quite a bit and heavily depends on the size of the business. Smaller businesses use blogs to raise reputation, trustworthiness and overall reach to their potential customer base.
Whereas larger company’s tend to have blogs purely to announce company updates and news.
Benefits of Business Blogging for Small Businesses
The benefits range just like the reason for business blogging.
Smaller businesses find blogging a useful way to attract and interact with more potential customers. Pushing more posts onto the internet increases the changes that it might be linked from other websites. These links back to your website are called backlinks.

Backlinks are one of the corner stones to increasing the “reputation” of your website, which in turn can make you show up higher in search results.
Blogging can be used by businesses to also gather information about the topics that resonate best with their audience. This can help structure the products and services that they provide, aiming for the higher engagement topics.
For example: if a nail salon put out weekly updates on the work they had done and one photo in particular got more attention, they would invest more time and resources to advertise and fulfil that same service.
A blog is only as good as it’s content, in the same way a chain is only as good as it’s weakest link
How to Start Blogging for your Small Business
The easiest way to start blogging for your small business, or for any purpose really, is by using free content creation or social media sites.
Putting out regular updates on Facebook, or writing consistent articles on a WordPress or Medium.com blog are great ways to start.
Whether you’re a new business looking to establish an audience without the large upfront cost of advertisements, or a long standing business looking to get closer interactions with your customers then blogging is a great options to achieve both.
Before you start posting, it’s important that you the following
- Time to post
- Expertise to post (on the post topic)
- Funds to pay if you’re lacking either of the above
You see, anyone can write a post or even employ AI to write for them. But without providing helpful content that supplies a unique point of view, it’s doubtful that your posts will resonate with your audience which will result in low engagement rates on your posts.
I’d recommend consistence posts, at least 2x a week so that new posts are expected by your audience. Of course it’s fine if you miss a post or 2, it’s unavoidable, but doing your best to stick to a schedule increases your odds of a successful post. Let me explain…
Posting online is often about luck. Sometimes a post will get picked up by ‘the algorithm’ and gain a lot more views/comments/shares than usual. Posting more often and consistently simple increases your odds of this happening
Best Blogging Platforms for Small Businesses
Without a doubt, the best platforms are Facebook, LinkedIn, Medium and WordPress. All of these platforms allow you to post content and more importantly, track it’s engagement.
Tracking engagement is very important, as it allows you to find which content works best for you. If you know what works, then you can focus on that type of content.
You’ll likely find success with any of these platforms given enough time however, I would recommend posting your content to all of these platforms. Make sure to include links to each platform so that they can ‘lean’ on each other.
If someone likes your content on Facebook, they are fairly likely to check out your other platforms.
Personally, I would recommend WordPress as the best platform for small business blogs. It allows you the most control over your content and branding, but it does require the most technical knowledge and takes longer to setup.
You can either use the free WordPress tier, or buy your own domain and hosting to look more professional and start earning money from AdSense.
Business Blogging Ideas to Kickstart your Content
I’ll include some dummy ideas below, but if you need to come up with more I’d recommend asking friends, family, business partners, AI or checking your Google Analytics to see if there are any content gaps.
Here’s some good first blog post ideas for your small business:
- Introduction post – state who you are, what you do and why you do it
- Initial Customer Success – advertise your initial customer success and include a review
- Solve your problem – demonstrate how you can solve the customers exact problem
How to use Blogging to Market your Business
Blogging is a simple way to provide free marketing for your business, sharing with your friends and family is a free way to make sure your content reaches further horizons in the beginning.
Blog content can also be used to provide updates to your customers. If you have a large update coming, post a blog. If you have new discounts, post a blog. If you have a new member of your team starting soon, post a blog.
It’s often a missed opportunity when you don’t post a blog. And many business owners simply don’t think about everything they could be posting.
The best way to market your small business with blog posts is by providing free value. If you have a checklist you run through with paid customers, share some of these items so that potential customers can see your value before they pay. Providing enough posts like this helps build trust and reputation, making it easier to sell your products later down the line.
You could also message the people that like/comment/share your blog posts and ask if they’d like to join your email list. Boom! You’re building a list of email addresses that allow direct communication to customers.
Call to Action
Throughout most of your posts, it’s important to include a call to action. Just like this one!
Don’t have this on every post as it could drive people away from you. They might see it as pestering.
But it’s important to include a clear next step for your readers, make it as simple as possible. Coming back to our example about, if you give away some of your process for free to provide value, then a simple way to ‘learn more’ or ‘complete your audit’ would be free ways to get clicks that have a high chance in gaining a customer.
